The month of January is the month to get back in shape. Let’s face it. The holidays are over and so is our over indulgent habits. Everyone loves over indulging on sweets during the holidays, but come January 2nd our bodies demand the gluttony stop. The weight has piled on and we are forced to pay attention. Thousands of Americans pledge to burn off the extra weight by working out or dieting as their New Year’s resolutions. Gym memberships spike and the Weight Watcher commercials air relentlessly on the television. The problem is shedding the extra weight is hard and never fun to lose. It requires hard work and dedication. Who wants to run on a treadmill or lift weights for fun? But what if there was a way to work out the body and have fun at the same time? Is this concept possible? Well, the Brevard Zoo has just demonstrated it is very possible indeed.
The Brevard Zoo’s new Trek Treetop Aerial Adventures in Melbourne, Florida has managed to bring the fun element back into working out. The Trek Treetop which is run separate from the zoo, offers adventurers the opportunity to zip line and enjoy canopy walks 20 feet in the sky overlooking the wetlands and zoo. Who wouldn’t get a little excited at the prospect of exploring the world from a bird’s perspective? The park offers fun for all levels. Young children can enjoy the chutes and ladders course which includes 20 challenges involving bridges, tightropes and zip lines. The beginner adult course called the Canopy Walk offers adventurers the opportunity to walk 20 feet in the air while looking down on zoo animals and other natural landscapes. This course also offers two zip lines and five treetop challenges. Then for the really challenge driven adventurers, there is the Treetop Challenge. This course is the hardest and most advanced. The course offers large zip lines that are 40 feet above ground and multiple treetop challenges to test endurance, balance and strength. The course also offers these dare devils the opportunity to zip across more than 700 feet of wetlands, which is the home to many alligators.
Admission for the Trek Treetop varies between courses. The Chutes and ladders course is only $15 per person. The Canopy Walk admission is $25 per person and the Treetop Challenge costs $48 per person. These admissions do not include the zoo. Zoo admission is separate. All these courses offer adventurers a couple hours workout. For the adrenaline rush, thrill of flying down zip lines, and balancing on tightropes, the guests are all reviewing it is worth the money.
The creators of the Trek Treetop can pat themselves on the back. Already guests are found raving about their experience at the course. TripAdvisor ranks the Trek Treetop the number one “thing to do” while visiting Melbourne. My hat goes off to the masterminds behind this aerial adventure course. It is like the famous line from the movie Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come”. The Brevard Zoo built the aerial adventure course and come they are. Let the fun begin and the pounds by gone!
